Description:
Distinctive; the only long-tailed wagtail with blue-grey upperparts and yellow uppertail-coverts and underparts. In all plumages, has white supercilium, grey upperparts and yellow vent and undertail-coverts. Breeding male has black throat, with rest of underparts yellow. Female breeding lacks well-defined black bib.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor to all the districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, wintering in the lower valleys. Breeds by mountain streams with exposed rocks, often in forested areas up to 4000m; winters by slower streams in lowlands and foothills.
Behavior:
Forages by walking and picking, run-picking, and flying up a short distance from ground to catch an insect; also makes flycatching sallies from a perch out over water. Also wades in shallow water to pick aquatic prey. Prey mainly insects, notably fly larvae and adults and nymphal and adult mayflies and caddis flies and some dragonflies.
